Electives

Sixth Grade Electives:

During sixth period, sixth graders will alternate between taking PE and an elective course. 

Most sixth grade students opt to take our Elective Wheel course which provides them a sampling of the types of year-long elective courses they will be able to take in 7th and 8th grade.  The current courses that are part of the elective wheel are:

  • Engineering/Digitial Design --> preparation for Engineering and/or Digital Design
  • Journalism --> preparation for 7th & 8th grade Yearbook
  • Introduction to Spanish --> preparation for Spanish 1/2
  • Study Skills --> preparation for AVID 7.

Sixth grade students who do not want to take the Elective Wheel also have the option to take Beginning Band or Beginning Orchestra.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Electives:

Pershing offers a variety of elective options in 7th and 8th grade.  Seventh and eigth graders will select a year-long elective class.  The current elective offerings are:

  • ASB
  • AVID 
  • Career Exploration - Digital Design
  • Band Advanced
  • Engineering/Gateway to Tech
  • Engineering Advanced
  • Guitar 
  • Orchestra Advanced
  • Spanish 1/2**
  • Spanish 3/4**
  • Study Skills
  • Yearbook

**students earn high school credit when taking Spanish 1/2 and Spanish 3/4.
